On Reflection...
“Over the years, I have observed a steady decline in unusual, original music artists being promoted by mass media. My bands and I have never been exactly mainstream...and, thus, do not fit into the boxes people hope to place us. 'Cabaret Rock Nouveau' was our given genre after I formed Verborgen, and we performed and subsequently recorded. However, since the Verborgen mini-orchestra disbanded, there has been nothing quite like it, anywhere, of which I am aware.
As a singer-songwriter, I began with no intent toward commercial success...I simply expressed what came through me at the time. The same holds true now, one could say. However, during Verborgen's prime, the band needed money. So, I realized it became necessary to develop a business sense or find a manager, which I did. Unfortunately, no one knew how to market us...and we lost heart, as a result. It took five years of hard work to reach that point.
Artists who retain their creative identity and prowess usually remain relatively obscure...that is, unless what they create warrants a hearty response from a sleeping populace. Those awake to a different pulse hear the same muse, I think...far removed from what the entertainment industry expects to sell. What people find readily accessible is a kind of fodder that chokes both the pundits and audience with a dulling, catatonic buzz of fluff or numbing sameness. We have often retreated and regrouped, to avoid succumbing to the effects of age or indifference.
My new band, Flight of Odin takes a different road... more Indie-Doom Metal, and perhaps a little angrier. Like my other releases, it is laden with serious intent and concern for the Earth her inhabitants, and the reality we humans create."
