OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
FLIGHT OF ODIN UNVEILS HAUNTING NEW DOUBLE ALBUM
“I TRAVELED THE CROOKED PATH” OUT JUNE 30TH
Washington D.C. Area Female-Fronted Doom Metal Visionaries Deliver Their Most Ambitious and Theatrical Release Yet.
The Washington D.C. area's own Flight of Odin returns with their most expansive and captivating work to date, the double album "I Traveled the Crooked Path," arriving June 30th via the band's independent imprint, Riding the Dragonfly LTD.
Blending melodic doom metal, psychedelic atmospheres, classical influences, and progressive rock sensibilities, Flight of Odin has carved out a sound that defies easy categorization. The quartet's latest offering takes listeners on a journey through shadowed corridors of emotion, myth, introspection, and transcendence, showcasing a band that continues to evolve while remaining true to its distinctive artistic vision.
Founded in 2015 by vocalist and songwriter Xyra, bassist/keyboardist and executive producer Andrew Cann, drummer Kenny Finger, and guitarist Mike Karagiannis, Flight of Odin has steadily built an impressive catalog that includes The Only Door, Goddess in Smoke, Tattered Cloaks of Madness, Seance of Hecate, and now their most ambitious release yet, I Traveled the Crooked Path.
The album also marks a significant new chapter for the band with the addition of guitar prodigy Tyler Beddow, whose expressive and technically dazzling performances bring fresh energy to Flight of Odin's already immersive soundscape.
"Flight of Odin's new 2-disc album release, 'I Traveled the Crooked Path' can be hauntingly eerie, yet stunning and almost theatrical in delivery," states one early review. "The lead guitar work of Tyler Beddow carries us deep within dark labyrinths and then soars us sonically upward between eagles and lightning."
Among the album's highlights are the instrumental compositions "Andromeda," penned by Beddow, and "Obsidian Cove," composed by Andrew Cann. These atmospheric pieces further demonstrate the band's commitment to musical exploration beyond conventional genre boundaries.
At the heart of the album stands the commanding presence of Xyra, whose four-octave vocal range and evocative storytelling guide listeners through richly imagined lyrical landscapes. Supported by Finger's dynamic percussion, Cann's melodic bass work and classical piano flourishes, and Beddow's soaring guitar performances, the album creates an immersive experience that is both emotionally resonant and sonically adventurous.
Disc Two of the collection offers an added treasure for longtime followers, featuring three remastered tracks from the acclaimed Goddess in Smoke EP. These recordings showcase former collaborators Andy Paul, Dan Kolcun, and Chelle Fulk alongside Flight of Odin's core members.
The band's influences span an extraordinary spectrum, drawing inspiration from Chopin, Nico, The Velvet Underground, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Tool, and countless other artistic touchstones. The result is a sound that has inspired colorful descriptions from fans and critics alike.
One fan famously described Flight of Odin as:
"Heart meets Black Sabbath on the one hand, and Dead Can Dance meets The Doors on the other, cliffhanging with Pink Floyd and the mystical side of Led Zeppelin."
A reviewer from Stargazer Magazine echoed similar praise:
"There is nothing quite like this anywhere."
With I Traveled the Crooked Path, Flight of Odin continues to push creative boundaries while delivering music that is powerful, mysterious, emotionally charged, and unmistakably their own.
