Xyra and Verborgen - Where Glass Birds Fly
Graham Lubin, Celestial Voices; Dec 22, 1998
[Read Online]
I am delighted to bring this recording to your attention. I have a feeling that it will appeal greatly to lovers of October Project since it speaks about human regret and error, yet strangely it is music which, in the end, raises the spirits by reminding us that there is beauty in this world.

If you can imagine a melding between Nico, Annie Lennox, Edith Piaff, and Siouxsie Sioux, you may behold a relatively clear depiction of Xyra's voice. Within her nearly 4-octave range, Xyra's uniquely-phrased vocal compositions and arrangements are intriguing and compelling, velvety-warm, and emotionally riveting.

The line-up this US based group music allows for plenty of variation in musical texture. There is Xyra (Vocals, auxiliary keyboards), Andrew Cann (Grand & digital pianos, 2nd Lead guitar), Cris Chillura (Lead guitar), Fred Lieder (Acoustic & electric cellos), Norm Thorne (Drums & percussion),Don Stapleson (Clarinet, flute & saxophones) and Larry Lawrence (Bass guitars, midis and sequencers)

The music is built upon the Classical style, with moderate Jazz, Traditional and World influences. They have utilized six-string bass, exotic percussion and drums, electric guitar, cello, and multiple wind instruments.

The variety of the players bring to Verborgen a lush instrumental backdrop, adding many rich tones and fluid colors to their sonic paintings.

This intrigueing recording is not on general release but may be purchased on-line from the group's website.
