Doug Empie’s unique style and musicianship contribute intensity and magical energy to tracks that might otherwise seem staid or predictable.
Born in Washington DC, two years after Bret Empie, Doug began classical violin at age nine. In his early teens, he performed in the Maryland Center for the Arts Orchestra for five years. Shortly thereafter, he attended St. John's College in Annapolis, MD, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy.
Beyond electric and acoustic violins, Doug displayed musical talents that include guitar, bass, keyboards, percussion and voice.
Doug’s first Alternative music band was the Stylish Reptiles, for which he wrote many songs.
Other projects include: Die Untermensche/Friends, Twangpopes, Stolen Government Binder Clip, The Boggies, Goat, Stereo Pharaohs, and Germany’s premiere guitarist, Jeff Aug.
In 2000, Doug joined his brother, Bret to work with Xyra on her side project, The LINE__.
In 2001, Doug added electric violin to seven recordings later used on XYRA’s 2005 CD, ‘Through the Dark Glass Shining’.
Doug is featured violinist on all Jeff Aug CDs, and the 2005 Billy Schools release, ‘The Drummer Who Wanted to Sing’.
Creating “an increasingly peculiar series of demos” at his Deeping Coomb Studios in Hornbrook, California, Doug Empie is sure to dazzle us with more surprises!
Doug's 'More About...' section is pending.
